HIGHER EDUCATION CAPITAL BOND PROGRAM

Logo: Futures Under Construction.

On Thursday, March 31, 2005, Gov. Brad Henry signed into law the largest higher education capital bond issue in the history of the state of Oklahoma.

The $475 million for construction and $25 million bond bank will allow our colleges and universities to better meet the needs of more than 238,000 students. The funds will be used to expand and update labs, classrooms and basic campus infrastructure like heating, cooling and access.

The passage of the bond issue is a clear signal that Oklahoma is determined to continue to improve higher education in our state.

A public ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception was held on Sept. 8 for the new Hilltop Theatre on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Weatherford. SWOSU President John Hays said a formal grand opening dinner will be held Dec. 5. The 9,500-square-foot theatre was made possible by the Oklahoma Higher Education “Futures Under Construction” Capital Bond Program. The theatre is located just west of the Fine Arts Center on the SWOSU campus. The Hilltop Theatre replaces the Old Science Building Auditorium, which is now being renovated into classrooms and laboratories. The first production in the Hilltop Theatre will be Oct. 9-11 when the SWOSU Department of Communication and Theatre presents the comedy, Circus Olympus.
